I would like to acknowledge the generous support of the Canada Council for the Arts in awarding me a Research and Creation Grant. With funds from the Canada Council I have been developing a new series around images  these of motherhood. I have been working on mixed media paintings with recurrent images of intersections of motherhood and invasive species interacting with the landscape. 

In my earlier work I wanted to give voice to an experience of the landscape that I didn’t see reflected in the art historical tradition I was brought up in.  Similarly, I now feel the urge give voice to images of motherhood, which is underrepresented in the contemporary art zeitgeist. Through motherhood I am experiencing a literal and figurative opening to new potential in my life and practice.
